FAQs

Q: What's the difference between BugSherpa and programs like Basecamp?

Programs like Basecamp are communications systems that help you follow the critical paths of an entire project. They're great for organizing disparate information, but not for single tasks with review workflows (like bug-tracking).

BugSherpa is designed to do only one thing — and do it extremely well: track bugs in web and software applications.

Q: Do I have to have a PayPal account to subscribe to BugSherpa?

A PayPal account is not required to start your BugSherpa subscription, just a valid credit card. If you don't already have a PayPal account, you'll create one during signup.

Q: Do you provide phone support?

BugSherpa's low price prohibits phone support, but we'll be happy to respond promptly to any email questions.

Q: Can we prepay for BugSherpa a year in advance?

At this time, we only offer monthly subscriptions for standard accounts. We do make other arrangements for Premier Accounts; contact us if you'd like to set one up.

Q: Is our data backed up in case of emergency?

Yes, we do nightly backups of all data.

Q: Can we install BugSherpa on our own server?

BugSherpa is only available as a hosted product.

Q: Can we customize BugSherpa?

Beyond uploading your company logo (which displays in the Remote Reporting Window), standard subscription accounts are not customizable. If you need more out of BugSherpa, contact us; we'll be happy to talk with you about a Premier Account (and the fees to go with it).

Q: We LOVE Remote Reporting and want to keep using it after our projects go live.
Can we get rid of the bug badge and use text links instead?

Absolutely. Replace "remote" with "remote_alt" in the Remote Reporting javascript include code.
Then add a this link anywhere you'd like: <a href="javascript:launchRemoteWindowAlt();">Report a bug</a>

Q: I want to set up due dates for assignments. Why isn't there a field for that?

BugSherpa focuses on priorities rather than due dates. It's simpler, and one less thing to keep track of.

The rationale? In the real world, you're either working on your assignments or you're not, and your target dates are probably pretty apparent (like: "Hey James, get those bugs done by Friday or else!").

If you really need due dates you might add them to the notes field.

Q: Why 18 projects and 18 users?

Good question. That's one of life's great mysteries you'll just have to figure out on your own.

Q: We've hit the maximum allowable Projects. What next?

Just export an old project as a CSV file, then delete it (the project–not the file) and create a new one.

If you simply must have more than 18 projects, users or custom functionality, contact us about a Premier Account; we'll see about an account (and fee) structure that makes sense for all parties.
